Chapman’s Jewelry was founded in 1964 by Eli Chapman in Detroit, MI. Eli was a WWII army veteran, semi-pro basketball player, husband and father of six. After migrating to Detroit during the great migration, Eli worked in many fields before finding his niche in fine jewelry. As an employee at the Detroit Department of Transportation, he would drive a bus route during the morning then get off in time to run his shop called Glicks in the afternoon. Eventually Eli retired from DDOT but used his connections and business savvy to win a City of Detroit contract to supply pocket watches to city bus drivers. A contract that remained active for over 50 years.
Eli believed in customer service, long-lasting business relationships, and supplying quality products above all else. These are values that he passed to his four sons: Michael, Arthur, Richard, & Eric. With their help, Chapman's opened two more locations and for the first time expanded to Detroit’s west side.
Now in it’s third generation of ownership and more than 50 years since inception, Chapman’s is proud to serve our customers nationwide and beyond through e-commerce. We are proud to continue to build on the legacy of Eli Chapman and the rest of the Chapman family!
