From that watch contract, Eli grew his business with the kind of quiet determination that defines Detroit. He purchased a downtown jewelry store called Glick's and began building his footprint in the city he loved.

Eventually he opened Eli Chapman & Sons on Harper Avenue on Detroit's Eastside — a store that became a cornerstone of the community. His son Mike Chapman expanded the family's reach to the Westside, opening Chapman's Jewelry & Gifts, and the Chapman name became known across the city as a place where quality, integrity, and personal service were never negotiable.

Eli built this business with one vision above all else: to pass something meaningful down to his sons — Michael, Arthur, Richard, and Eric. Not just a store. A legacy.

Over six decades, Chapman's has served Detroit through its highs and its lows, through change and through growth, always rooted in the same values Eli instilled from the very beginning.
